I have always been petite and active, but not always healthy. My diet consisted of eating out, lots of alcohol and endless cupcakes. I really decided to make a big change in my diet and exercise about 5 years ago.
In my quest for ‘healthy’ I developed an eating disorder. I was eating servings not portions of food. I fought daily with the scale and a shrinking number. It became more of game than anything.
Then some amazing people came into my life and I realized that my bones really weren’t that cute. A good friend asked me where I wanted to be when I was 80, and that is the moment I realized something had to change. I wasn’t living the life that was going to help me reach that goal.
My husband and kids are the most important people in my life. I want to leave a legacy for my kids. I want to chase my kids and grandkids around. I want to do all the things with my husband. I’m not giving up the cupcakes but I am making the choice to workout and eat smart. I am still learning and growing in this process. Progress > Perfection on repeat! (Thanks, Lara)
Healthy is more than a number on the scale or the size on the label in your clothes. This is just a part of what being 80 is for me.
Everyone story is different journey with food, but we all want to live long lives. We want to experience it to the fullest. Ask yourself the same question…where do you want to be when you are 80? Are you doing those things today to get yourself there? If not, what can you change?
